Teleological Theologian

Teleology, from the greek teleos meaning complete, the use of ultimate purpose or design as a means of explaining natural phenomena.

The exploring the purpose of a thing as a means of gaining a dimension of understanding of that thing.

(We live in a world that is more and;or rather than this;that.)

So what is the natural phenomena that I want to explain by means of a teleological process?

Us,the human species.

We are a natural phenomenon by any definition of the word natural.

Theologian: a specialist in theology

Theology: the study of the nature of god and religious truths.

Religious: adhering to or manifesting religion.

Religion: the belief in and reverence for a supernatural power recognized as the creator and governor of the universe.

A Theologian is a specialist in the study of the nature of god; an identifier of truths regarding the power that is the creator and governor of the universe.

I would like to explore a teleological understanding of us, the natural phenomenon that is the human species.

Teleology is the use of ultimate purpose or design as a means of explaining natural phenomena.

Over time I will attempt to walk you through my rational understanding of what we are and what we have come to do.

Firstly we must accept that there is a design.

When you witness an ant farm you are intuitively aware that the motions and actions of the colony are not random. They exhibit organization, structure, and purposeful direction. While at anytime one ant may appear to be acting in a manner we would call random, the colony as a whole does not.

I would say that the purpose of an ant farm is to serve as a metaphor for a universal truth. The truth being:

There is a designer behind the design.

Whatever you want to call it, IT is. To hold the idea that all of this, and by this I mean all of earth and existence, happened by accident then you need not continue reading this for you and I have such fundamental differences in our experience that I can be of no assistance to you.

So, what can we know about IT? IT is the designer behind the design.

Design: the invention and disposition of the forms, parts or details of something according to a plan.

So IT is the designer and we are the design.

Like any artist knows when one creates a piece it represents something that you wanted to bring out of the realm of the mind and into manifestation.

We are the manifestations of the Creator a'ka IT. We are the artistic expressions of the creator of the universe.

Do you understand what that means?

Ok, artists use various mediums from which to bring forth their art. What medium would the creator have at IT's disposal?

In the beginning there was everything.

Since something cannot come from nothing, by definition, then what is must have always been.

At some point this everything became aware of itself.

I do not quite understand the process but since I am aware and my awareness allows me to explore the universe around me I must assume that at some point awareness became an attribute of the universe.

So, this everything now is aware that it exists. Since IT was everything the only medium/raw material that it had access to was Itself. That is why it has been said that we are god. Because anything that has ever been has been of the “Body” of God.

So this awareness began to create. First it creates a space and furnishes that space with all that it desires. Then it places beings within that space.

This is a powerful over simplification but it is that which I can say with out question or belief.

My and your very existence make these claims facts.

So far, we now KNOW that we ARE the creations of the grand designer of the universe. Not bad huh?

But to what end?

Well an artist creates a piece as a mode of expression of herself. At the very least a painting, sculpture, house, meal, have in common that they express the attention of the artist. They express care for those that would enjoy the creation. They convey the unique desires and likes of the artist. In short there is much that can be learned about an artist from their art:a designer by the design...

Here comes that oldie but goodie, “WoMan, know thy self...” To know yourself is to glimpse the artist behind your creation.

So the space has been set and the being has been placed, now what? Now it all must be set in motion. To be given direction; to be given purpose. This is the study of teleology. The desire and energy expenditure to the end of understanding the purpose to which we were created to fulfill.
